NFL Conference Championship Picks

My picks were 2-0 last week, bringing my season record to 53-46-7. I wish now I had taken all four underdogs, but in the interest of tighter quality control, I selected only the two strongest plays. It will be similar this week, though in two weeks I plan to blow it out with Super Bowl propositions.

New Orleans +2.5 at Chicago: I am drinking the Saints Kool-Aid, deeply. They have the most diverse and effective offense in the NFL. The funny thing is, many of the pieces were widely available. Right now, there are billionaires in New York and Dallas that wish they had kept Coach Sean Payton around. Also, there is a billionaire in Miami who wishes he hadn't passed on QB Drew Brees in the offseason. WR Marques Colston was so unheralded, only three players were drafted after him. The Saints have the aura of destiny to them, while the Bears have been barely good enough, which won't cut it this week.

Indianapolis vs. New England under 48 points: I just can't make a call on the outcome of this game. I think it is finally the time for the Colts to overcome the Patriots' mystique. (Destiny? Mystique? Am I spending too much time in strip clubs?) On the other hand, you would have to be crazy to to pick against the Pats after last week. So I'm bailing on the side, and picking the total. I'm thinking something like 23-17...one way or the other.
