NFL Week Three Picks

After another shabby 2-3 performance last week, I am now 4-9 on the year. I better start getting some things right, and soon. Here are six entries for this week.

Cincinnati -3 at Carolina: The Panthers are giving a rookie quarterback his first start, against a pretty good defense. This will probably not end well.

New Orleans -3 vs. Atlanta: This might be one of the best games of the week. The Falcons are a likely playoff team, but they are not ready to take out the bullies of their division in the Superdome.

Kansas City +3 vs. San Francisco: The 49ers are this year's snakebit team. Even if they play well, their opponent will play that much better. I'm going to take the home team and the points in a matchup where both teams' defenses are the better units.

Houston -2.5 vs. Dallas: Not sure what the oddsmakers are thinking about here. This line indicates the Cowboys would be a half-point favorite at a neutral site. Have they seen this Dallas team play? Though talented, they have looked like dog-squeeze early this season. Texans by a touchdown.

Washington -3.5 at St. Louis: Redskins shrug off last week's disappointing collapse against the Texans. The Rams are not nearly as good.

Indianapolis -5 at Denver: I might have liked this line anyway. After Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno injured himself in practice, and a player on injured reserve committed suicide, it is an easy call. Sorry. Peyton Manning doesn't show mercy to anybody.

Edit to correct season record.
